Bishop Irinej Visits St. Sava Cathedral for Vidovdan
This Vidovdan, the faithful of St. Sava Cathedral venerated a rare blessing: a ribbon sanctified during the Holy Belt of the Theotokos' visit to Belgrade, brought by Deaconess Mira Damljanović. His Grace Bishop Irinej, who celebrated the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy with Fr. Dragan Vuković and Deacon Milan Damljanović, explained its significance: the Belt, woven by the Mother of God herself, was once entrusted to Holy Prince Lazar, who carried it to Mount Athos before the Battle of Kosovo.
The bishop tied the relic directly to the day's meaning: Vidovdan is not just history, but a choice renewed at every Liturgy, to commit our lives to Christ as Lazar and the Kosovo martyrs did. A Memorial Service honored all Serbian martyrs and warriors, followed by diplomas for graduating students and a joyful agape meal hosted by the St. Petka Circle of Serbian Sisters.
