His Grace Bishop Irinej (Dobrijević)

Bishop of Washington–New York and Eastern America

His Grace Bishop Irinej (Dobrijević)

Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, His Grace Bishop Irinej (Dobrijević) has a lifelong connection to this community and this cathedral. He pursued theological studies with distinction, earning a Licentiate in Theology maxima cum laude from St. Tikhon's Orthodox Theological Seminary (1979) and a Master of Divinity from St. Vladimir's Orthodox Theological Seminary (1982), before going on to serve the Church at the highest levels of episcopal and ecumenical leadership.

He was ordained a deacon in 1994 at Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Cathedral in Chicago, tonsured a monk in 1995 at St. Sava Monastery in Libertyville, Illinois, and ordained a hieromonk that same year at Saint Sava Cathedral here in Parma. He was elevated to the rank of Archimandrite in 2006 at the personal request of Patriarch Pavle, and consecrated bishop on July 15, 2006 at the Holy Archangel Michael Cathedral in Belgrade. He served as Bishop of Australia and New Zealand from 2006 to 2016, during which time he established the unified Metropolitanate of Australia and New Zealand in 2011, becoming the longest-reigning hierarch in that jurisdiction.

On May 25, 2016, the Holy Assembly of Bishops elected him Bishop of Eastern America by acclamation. He assumed his current throne on October 1 of that year, and his diocesan title was expanded in May 2024 to Bishop of Washington–New York and Eastern America to reflect the diocese's broader jurisdiction. Under his omophorion, the diocese has grown to encompass parishes across the eastern United States, with Bishop Irinej maintaining an active presence among the faithful through frequent parish visits, youth retreats, and diocesan events.

Our Priest

Father Dragan Vuković

Parish Priest, Saint Sava Cathedral

Father Dragan Vuković

Father Dragan Vuković was born in Zenica in 1986 and felt the call to priestly service from his earliest years in the altar. He completed his theological formation at St. Arsenije Seminary in Sremski Karlovci and the St. Basil of Ostrog Faculty in Foča, and was ordained to the priesthood in 2019 by Bishop Irinej of Eastern America. He and his wife Vladanka are blessed with two children, Petar and Vera. After serving as parish priest in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, Fr. Dragan now ministers to the faithful at Saint Sava Cathedral.

The Reverend Dragan Vuković was born on September 11, 1986, in Zenica, on the Feast of the Beheading of St. John the Baptist, as the second child of Nebojša and Vidosava Vuković. His childhood was marked by the hardships of war and displacement, during which he lost both his father, Nebojša Vuković, and his uncle, Vukan Vuković — decorated soldiers who gave their lives defending their homeland.

From an early age, Fr. Dragan served in the altar and actively participated in the Divine Services, where his calling to the priesthood gradually took shape. With the blessing of Bishop Mitrofan of Eastern America, he enrolled in 2001 at St. Arsenije Orthodox Theological Seminary in Sremski Karlovci. He later continued his theological education at the St. Basil of Ostrog Orthodox Theological Faculty in Foča, where he completed his studies.

From 2009 to 2019, Fr. Dragan served as an Orthodox religious education teacher at the Elementary School “Vuk Stefanović Karadžić” in Branjevo, where he devoted himself to educating many generations of students in the spirit of the Orthodox faith.

In 2016, he married Vladanka Vuković (née Mihajlović) from Paraćin. They are blessed with two children, Petar and Vera.

In May 2018, he was ordained to the Holy Diaconate at the Monastery of St. Archangel Gabriel in Zemun by Bishop Irinej of Eastern America, and in September 2019 he was ordained to the Holy Priesthood at the Church of St. Simeon the Myrrh-Streaming in Charlotte, North Carolina.

From January 2021 until December 2025, Fr. Dragan served as the parish priest of St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Church in Johnstown, Pennsylvania.

Today he serves at the Cathedral of St. Sava, where he continues his priestly ministry, working together with the faithful to build a living community of faith, love, and unity in Christ.
