Cathedral Clean-Up Day Brings Community Together

More than 40 volunteers showed up this past weekend to give the cathedral the attention it deserved, and what followed was one of those days that remind you why community matters.

From early in the morning, parishioners of all ages arrived with brooms, rags, and a willingness to tackle whatever needed doing. Rooms were swept and organized, surfaces polished, and projects that had been sitting on the back burner for months finally got their due. The work was real, and so was the energy behind it.

By midday, the difference was already clear. Brighter hallways, neatly arranged spaces, and a general sense that the building itself was breathing a little easier. Conversation and laughter carried through the halls all morning, with the kind of easy camaraderie that forms when people work side by side toward something they care about.

To thank everyone for their effort, a luncheon was prepared and shared among the volunteers. Good food, warm company, and a well-earned rest.

The day also brought an unexpected guest appearance. After a call from a "concerned citizen," local firefighters stopped by to have a look around. Everything turned out to be perfectly fine, and the firefighters ended up staying to share in the meal and the spirit of the afternoon. It made for a memorable moment, and a good story.

What started as a clean-up ended up being something more. The cathedral is cleaner and more organized, yes, but it also carries the energy of everyone who gave their Saturday to it. That counts for something.
